It’s been six months since Wilco split from their old label, Nonesuch. Now, they’re using their newfound freedom to focus on what THEY want as a band. As it turns out, they’re following their dream of creating their own label, while the fans are getting more chances than ever to see them live this summer.
Wilco’s new label, dBpm Records or “Decibels per Minute,” will be run with the help of their manager and ANTI-Records, who will give additional support for distribution and such.
“This is an idea we’ve discussed for years,” said Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy. “We really like doing things ourselves, so having our own label feels pretty natural to me. And, to be working with ANTI- a label that has its roots in a label that was started by a punk rock guy to sell his own records seems like a perfect fit for us.”

Wilco was formed in 1994 in Chicago by members of an alternative country group called Uncle Tupelo. In the 16 years of the band’s history, only two members have remained since the beginning: frontman Jeff Tweedy and bassist John Stirratt.
The current line-up also includes Nels Cline, Glenn Kotche, Pat Sansone and Mikael Jorgenson, all of whom have been with the band since 2004.
Wilco, which comes from the terms ‘will comply,’ is difficult to categorize. Their first album, A.M. (1995) relied heavily on the alternative country that they had grown accustomed to, but the following six albums also incorporated alternative rock and classic pop.
To date, their albums include Being There (1996), Summerteeth (1999), Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (2002), A Ghost Is Born (2004), Kicking Television: Live in Chicago (2005), Sky Blue Sky (2007) and Wilco (The Album) (2009).
Wilco have been on the down-low in 2010, but they did perform at the Solid Sound Festival in North Adams, Mass. from Aug. 13-15.
